It's been a crazy few weeks around here. Last week, high winds caused a branch to fall on the power line that goes into our home causing us to file our first ever homeowners claim for the lost computers, T.V.'s, range, microwave. This week we woke up on Friday morning to news of a possible Tsunami headed our way. Scary stuff. Our home is located about 16 miles inland and on the hill above the river so we felt safe as far as that went, but the shop is right in the inundation zone and we have several friends that either live in the low lying areas of Florence or own businesses in Old Town which sits right along the river. We spent several tense hours watching the news and texting with friends until the 'all clear' was sounded and people could return to their homes and businesses. To say that we were ready for a lazy stress free Sunday would be an understatement!
I've been collecting pieces and parts for some unique lamps for a while now. My daughter had found this lamp on Anthropologie and I fell in love with it, but the $198 price tag wasn't even close to being in my budget. That and I didn't like how part of the lamp was put together. I had decided that I would build my own and, since I can't just do something partway, I've had a pile of mismatched plates, cups, bowls and teapots just waiting to be stacked into some great lamps. We woke up to a windy and rainy day and there was no chance of getting out in the yard/garden to clean up that mess, so I decided it was a good day to start gluing and assembling.
It all started with the cherry teapot...

It all started with the cherry teapot...
This was one of those 'tea for one' sets that has the larger cup that fits on the bottom of the pot.
Then I found this great vintage tea cup and saucer with the red print...
I had actually decided to keep this set and use it for my morning tea. I guess I should have taken it out of the pile that I had set out for Ken to drill for me. I came home to find a perfect hole drilled through both the cup and the saucer!
I had found a smaller white teapot and wasn't sure that I would be able to use it till I found this pretty rose printed teacup and saucer...
The smaller size and the delicate cup will make this a perfect little night light.
I still need to finish getting the lamps wired as soon as the glue dries and get some great shades for them so I can get them in the shop. And the price tag on these little 'knock-off's' is guaranteed to be less than half the price of its Anthropology inspiration. All in all a fairly productive lazy Sunday!

I love the lights! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to know I am not the only one! Can't wait to see the finished product.
